Watkins fires Villa to seventh heaven
Aston Villa have stunned Liverpool with a remarkable 7-2 victory at Villa Park to move into second place in the Premier League.
Perfect hat-trick from Watkins
Ollie Watkins was the hero for Villa, scoring a perfect hat-trick to take his tally for the season to 12. The England international opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a fine finish from close range, and he doubled his tally just three minutes later with a header from a Douglas Luiz cross.
Liverpool pulled a goal back through Mohamed Salah in the 21st minute, but Watkins completed his hat-trick in the 39th minute to restore Villa's two-goal advantage. Philippe Coutinho made it 4-1 just after the hour mark, and Watkins then added his fourth in the 67th minute to make it 5-1.
Liverpool pulled another goal back through Sadio Mane in the 74th minute, but Emiliano Buendia made it 6-2 in the 81st minute. Luis Diaz scored a late consolation for Liverpool, but it was not enough to prevent Villa from claiming a famous victory.
